LIVING AT HAVENFIELD

To ensure a stress-free move into our home, we work together to plan a smooth transition. As with everything we do at Havenfield, this is tailored to each person, so it could be gradual introductions, tea visits and overnight stays or it might be ensuring the individual’s room is decorated how they want it before they arrive.

Everyone is given a key worker and a named nurse and, once individuals have got to know staff, they can change key workers if there is someone they have built a special rapport with.

At Havenfield Lodge, individuals are encouraged to take as much responsibility as they want to accept, so they can be involved in managing their own medications, finances, the house shopping and recruitment of new staff. The people who live here take pride in looking after their home, including cooking, cleaning, doing laundry and shopping.

Each individual has a person-centred plan and, to help people achieve their aspirations, we enable attendance at college courses, work placements and day services. We also have an activities coordinator who ensures there is a varied, educational and enjoyable programme of activities on offer, such as attending a weekly disco, exercise, games, meals out, going bowling and trips to the cinema. These activities are a great opportunity to have fun and make friends.

“People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.”

OUR TEAM

Keith Bush, our CQC registered manager, leads the Havenfield team of over 60 experienced, knowledgeable and caring staff. Keith is a qualified nurse and has a wealth of experience in acquired brain injuries, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, forensic and mental health.

We have a rolling programme of training and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to ensure our staff are up-to-date with best practices.

“Staff were provided with an induction and relevant training to make sure they had the right skills and knowledge for their role. Staff were supported in their jobs through team meetings, regular supervisions and an annual appraisal.”

WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP

We promote an atmosphere of positive, trusting and respectful relationships between the people who live here and their friends and families, the wider community and external services. Havenfield has strong relationships with the community learning disability team and mental health teams, which include physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech and language therapists. We also work closely with Sun Healthcare’s Supported Living team to help people who are ready to move on and live independently.

Following a person-centred approach is key to our work at Havenfield. We have regular house meetings, a service user forum, dignity and dementia champions (both staff and residents) – all to make sure that people’s views are incorporated into how we run the home. Families and friends are encouraged to share their views too.

PERSONAL STORY

Havenfield is a very good place to live with good caring staff and excellent food. The nurses, both day and night, are always there to help you and make sure I get whatever I need. I would recommend anyone to visit and come and live at Havenfield with its warm friendly family feel. They have given me the support and confidence to use my electric mobility scooter to go to and from the local shops and area.
